When working with clients, it’s that kernel of an idea
that has the potential to grow, develop, and crystallize
into the perfect visual solution, one that resonates
with the hearts and minds of our intended audience.
When working with students, it’s that ah-ha moment,
the second when a particular technique, idea or concept
suddenly clicks and empowers the student in his/her
process towards creating powerful results.
Yes, I have witnessed it time and time again,
with a creative working relationship
and the love of excellent design,
something AMAZING always comes of it.

Up until her class I had gained knowledge in design programs and software, but through Laina’s teaching I was able to discover my own creative style. I was then pushed out of my comfort zone to challenge myself while gaining a stronger direction in the graphic design field. Every project was aimed in a direction that was new and exciting. Some of my best work was created in her class and is currently being used to help me pursue my career in graphic design.

...and is willing to do whatever she can to help execute a successful project. During my two semesters as Professor Leckie’s student, I found her experience as not only a professor in the Arts, but also as a professional in the graphic design industry to be very beneficial; she was able to constantly offer real on-the-job insight and advice every step of the way. This advice has helped me land freelance jobs and is also helping me as I begin arranging my portfolio to apply to a 4-year school. I would recommend taking Professor Leckie’s class to any student who is hard working, dedicated to their art and ready to learn! She is the best!

Laina is always supportive whenever we get stuck with an issue: whether it is something with the programs, or running out of good ideas; she will sit with us and give us suggestions. Laina is patient and thoughtful, she will try her best to help me and other students to solve problems we have as we work on our projects. Laina devotes a lot of her own personal time to us, talking to us and answering our questions after class, during breaks and even when she is having lunch! She really is someone who loves teaching and cares for her students. Wish I could keep learning more from her!
